Remember Ann Richards fondly if for no other reason than the fact that she said a mean thing about Poppy and it apparently made Barbara Bush vomit.

This is from Bill Minutaglio's George W. biography, First Son:

[Richards] had begun her keynote address by reminding her audience, already mesmerized by her appearance, that they should listen closely because they could hear "what a real Texas accent sounds like." To reprise that still-resonating image of the Bushes and Walkers as carpetbaggers with the thinnest ties to native Texans, she added, "Poor George, he can't help it ... he was born with a silver foot in his mouth." That, knew George W., had actually made his mother physically ill as she watched Richards on TV during the summer retreat at Kennebunkport.

Oh, boo hoo.

Rest in peace, Ann.
