ONLY THOSE STINKY LIBERALS WOULD POLITICIZE A FUNERAL

...No congressional Democrats were invited to address a ceremony at the Capitol on Wednesday upon Reagan's arrival in Washington. The funeral was planned in detail by Reagan and his family dating back to 1989 when he left office.

"I'd be honored to speak, and I know others would, too, who are Democrats," Senate minority leader Tom Daschle said. "But if that is the family wish, then certainly we'd respect it."...

And go here for the Reverend Joseph Lowery's eloquent response to criticism of his eulogy.

And let's also not forget that Ann Coulter's notorious line "We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity" appeared in a column about the death of her friend Barbara Olson, published a day after 9/11. That can be defended as a burst of outrage at the people who killed Olson. This, from the same column, can't:

...it was actually easy to imagine Ted reading political columns aloud to Barbara at the breakfast table. Theirs was a relationship that could only be cheaply imitated by Bill and Hillary -- the latter being a subject of Barbara's appropriately biting bestseller, Hell to Pay. Hillary claimed preposterously in the Talk magazine interview that she discussed policy with Bill while cutting his grapefruit in the morning. Ted and Barbara really did talk politics -- and really did have breakfast together.

Expressing a shared political opinion while eulogizing a political friend who's just died -- I guess it's OK only if you're a Republican.
