Bloody hell:

Mel Gibson will be asked to re-create the final journey of Christ in the streets of Sydney if the Pope visits here in 2008.

Gibson's staging the Stations of the Cross is part of Sydney's pitch for Catholicism's World Youth Day, which a leading Vatican observer claims has already been secretly awarded to the city.

According to bid documents sent to the Vatican and obtained by the Herald, Gibson would be asked to create the Stations of the Cross as he did in his film
The Passion of the Christ.

...The bid document does not say how much the event would cost, but rumours of at least $80 million have prompted disquiet in some sections of the church that its contribution - thought to be about a third - could be better spent elsewhere....

You know, Shiites shed a lot of their own blood when they celebrate Ashura -- a practice that really appalls a lot of right-wingers. The blood in Mel's little procession in Sydney will be fake, but I assume his Jesus will look as if he's been flogged to a bloody pulp. Ashura envy? And am I correct in assuming very few right-wingers will find it distasteful?
